Flaming Lips - Christmas on Mars
“For a band whose music has long been described as “cinematic,” it’s about time —seven years, to be precise—the Flaming Lips got around to making a full-length live-action movie. “Christmas on Mars” is a characteristic wacky expression of the Lips’ love of psychedelia, birth-and-death themes and uplifting movements. The kicker: Most of the action isn’t in the music, but the acting. A cast featuring Lips Steven Drozd, Wayne Coyne and Michael Ivins alongside the likes of Fred Armisen and Adam Goldberg cobbles together a believable take on human life in a futuristic Martian colony. Stress, hallucinations and technical malfunctions threaten the crew’s collective sanity, but Christmas Day heralds the arrival of a helpful alien (Coyne) and the hope-restoring birth of a human baby. The score, released separately on CD, is more textural and mood-setting than catchy in the vein of modern-era Lips albums. But in the context of the film, it works splendidly, forging a sort-of poor man’s “2001.” —Troy Carpenter”

T-Pain - Thr33 Ringz
“Unless you’re an astute T-Pain follower, you may not have realized he hasn’t released an album since May 2007. That’s because he’s been nearly as ubiquitous as Lil Wayne in the guest appearance department since then, adding his Autotuned voice to tracks from Wayne, Ciara and Ludacris, among many others. So what’s the difference between T-Pain the guest and T-Pain the featured artist? Not much, but that’s OK, thanks to a winning mix of humor and sincerity. “I don’t need your sex/I’ll masturbate,” he sniffs on the Kanye West-featuring “Therapy,” while “Chopped & Skrewed” is a comic tale of being hoodwinked by a woman. But there’s more substance here than on past albums, particularly on the Eric Clapton-sampling “Change,” and T-Pain seems comfortable leaning in a poppier direction on tracks like “Can’t Believe It” featuring Wayne. He’s still aiming for the club, but perhaps there’s more to T-Pain than meets the ear. —Hillary Crosley”

Funky dance track with great vocals. Not sure why this is on the new Promo Mainstream Radio CD, however it’s a good nightclub track. Who knows, it could crossover? 8/10

Brianna Taylor - Summertime

I think you’ll recognize her from “The Real World Hollywood”. Another example of ulterior motives on reality TV. Little late to be dropping a single called “Summertime”, at least in the States (However the title doesn’t make a whole lot of sense if you listen to the hook. Voice is kind of plain, I personally don’t see this doing much at all, but it does have some potential. 6/10

Wow, is this Jermaine Dupri’s version of Beyonce? Sounds almost identical to her. The track is alright, but doesn’t really stand out. 5/10

I think you’ll recognize her from “Paris Hilton’s - My New BFF”, and obviously the picture helps. Just goes to show you that almost every person on one of these shows has ulterior motives. I’ll be honest, I had no confidence in this track, but I was actually very impressed. If you pay attention to the lyrics, they are very original, the girl has a decent voice and the beat is decent. Pleasantly surprised. 8/10

Nice and slow with a faster chorus, and it’s nice to hear Nicole really flex her voice. Seems like they just keep releasing singles, but I can’t complain, they’re all decent hits. As is this. 8/10
