Bands Announced for Bluegrass Battle in New York
Drawing from more than 30 Bands nominated nationwide, Steam Powered Hour Host and New Yorker Cartoonist Matthew Diffee announces the 12-band line-up for the January 10, Steam-Powered Hour Battle of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Bands in New York, NY.
(PRWEB) January 4, 2010 — The Steam Powered Hour presents the first ever Big Apple Battle of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Bands. Twelve top “bluegrassish†bands will battle it out on stage for the right to play in next year’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco.
Participating bands include: Annie and the Beekeepers, The Birdhive Boys, Citigrass, The Five Deadly Venoms, Fresh Baked Bluegrass, The Hot Seats, Jefferson Hamer and Laura Cortese, Jim Gaudet and The Railroad Boys, The Stillhouse Rounders, The Sweetback Sisters, Thomas Bailey and the Aristocrats, and Walker’s Run.
Bands were selected from more than 30 groups nominated nationwide, with several from outside of the U.S. nominated as well.
Judges are Norm Parenteau of Slipshod Management, Rita Houston, music director of WFUV, Dave Godowsky from Rounder Records, and Dawn Holliday of The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.
Three cartoonists from The New Yorker magazine; Drew Dernavich, Emily Flake and Pete Holmes will be on hand to provide visual comedic interludes. Hosted by Cartoonist and bad banjo player Matthew Diffee.
