“Step Up 3D” soundtrack packed with stars

Sure, there were movies like Forrest Gump and Almost Famous whose soundtracks everyone needed to have. After all, who wouldn’t need several  vintage cuts of Simon & Garfunkel and Yes? But in general, most soundtracks in the past more closely resembled the likes of Spacejam’s whose killer cuts were highlighted by a  mind-bending remix of Spin Doctor’s “That’s the Way. (I Like It).”

These days, however, it seems that soundtracks are increasingly becoming the prime spot for hot new tracks to be debuted by stellar artists. Following in the footsteps of Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the soundtrack for the new Touchstone Pictures/Summit Entertainment dance film Step Up 3D, released by Atlantic Records, is stacked with big-name artists. The soundtrack includes Flo Rida (featuring David Guetta), Trey Songz, Estelle, Busta Rhymes, Roscoe Dash(featuring T-Pain), Chromeo and Jesse McCartney.

The star-studded soundtrack hits shelves on July 27, just shy of one week before Step Up 3D opens in theaters nationwide on August 6. A special digital deluxe-edition has three exclusive bonus tracks, as well as the video for Laza’s “This Girl.”  And if that wasn’t enough, a Latin American edition of the soundtrack will be released simultaneously, featuring a revised tracklisting and Spanish-language bonus tracks.
