David Cook Tried Not To Cry During ‘American Idol’ Finale Performance
Last year’s champ performed ‘Permanent’ in honor of his late brother Adam.
On Wednesday night, a year after he was crowned the American Idol, David Cook performed on the season-eight finale, when Kris Allen was named this year’s champion. During his performance, Cook paid tribute to his late brother Adam with the song “Permanent.”
“For the finale this year, I was floored that they would allow me to have that platform,” he told MTV News. “There’s so many great artists out there that could have had that moment. The fact that they had me come back and perform ‘Permanent,’ something that was important to me, the charity and everything, to continue to give me that platform [was great].”
He does admit that although he was grateful for the chance to sing the song and bring attention to his charity, Accelerate Brain Trust Cure, he did hope that when he went out there, he wouldn’t get too emotional and cry in front of everyone. “I was kind of half-joking with everyone beforehand that I always seem to cry at ‘Idol,’ ” he said. “I really didn’t want to with this last performance.”
Luckily, the show offered him some eye candy (and some old friends) to keep him from tearing up. “It was difficult, but I just remember looking around the room and seeing, like, Cameron Diaz over here and Heather Locklear over here and the four judges in the front and just thinking it’s such an oddly absurd moment, and I was here a year ago,” he said. “To have those, for lack of a better way to phrase it, distractions, it was just like, ‘Where in the world am I at right now?’ It kind of helped me get through it.”

David Cook - Permanent Lyrics
David Cook - Permanent Lyrics
Is this the moment where I look you in the eye?
Forgive my broken promise that you’ll never see me cry
And everything, it will surely change
Even if I tell you I won’t go away today
Will you think that you’re all alone
When no one’s there to hold your hand?
All you know seems so far away and everything is temporary, rest your head
I’m permanent
I know he’s living in hell every single day
So I ask: oh, God is there some way for me to take his place?
And when they say it’s so touch and go,
I wish I could make it go away
But still you say:
Will you think that you’re all alone
When no one’s there to hold your hand?
When all you know seems so far away and everything is temporary, rest your head
I’m permanent, I’m permanent
Is this the moment where I look you in the eye?
Forgive my promise that you’ll never see me cry

David Cook, Black Eyed Peas To Perform On ‘American Idol’ Finale
Kris Allen and Adam Lambert will have plenty of company on the “American Idol” stage this week when they face off to determine who will emerge victorious in this season’s competition.
According to an “Idol” spokesperson, Tuesday night’s show will find former “Idol” champ and country superstar Carrie Underwood paying her second visit this year to the big stage, this time to perform the season’s farewell song, her cover of Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home.”
Tuesday night will otherwise be devoted to Allen and Lambert singing for the crown, though the spokesperson said it has not yet been announced what the theme of the night is or who will be choosing the songs the two contestants perform.
Wednesday night’s two-hour finale will, as usual, feature a cavalcade of stars filling out the drama of the crowning of the season-eight winner. In addition to the traditional top 10 group numbers, among the performers confirmed for the results show are season-seven winner David Cook, the Black Eyed Peas, Queen Latifah, Keith Urban, Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana and Cyndi Lauper.
A spokesperson said there will be additional performances on the Wednesday night show, but the full lineup has not yet been announced. When asked, the spokesperson added that rumors speculating that Michael Jackson will appear on the finale — fueled by a Tweet from “Idol” castoff Scott MacIntyre last week — are “just rumors.”
Last year’s “Idol” finale featured top two finishers Cook and David Archuleta dueting on the “Spider-Man” tune “Hero,” the top six women singing “She Works Hard for the Money” and “Hot Stuff,” followed by Donna Summer singing a new single. Texas rockers ZZ Top joined Cook for “Sharp Dressed Man,” folk icon Graham Nash sang “Teach Your Children” with Brooke White, Seal sang “Waiting for You” with Syesha Mercado, the Jonas Brothers performed “S.O.S.” and Archuleta joined OneRepublic for “Apologize.”
In addition to a number of other top 10 finishers dueting and performing, the show featured a surprise appearance by George Michael and was capped by Cook singing the winner’s single, “The Time of My Life.”

David Cook’s Brother Passes Away After Battle With Cancer
The older brother of American Idol champ David Cook has lost his battle with brain cancer, according to the singer’s official website.
Adam Cook, 36, a lawyer, died early Sunday morning after an 11-year struggle with the disease, which had spread to his spine. He leaves behind his wife, Kendra, and their children.
David made the announcement Sunday morning at the 12th Annual Race for Hope 5K run/walk in Washington, D.C. benefiting finding a cure for brain cancer. The “Light On” rocker was the event’s honorary chairman and his team raised more the $97,000 for the cause.
The brothers had one of AI’s most memorable, tear-worthy moments ever, when Adam sat in the audience in April 2008 and watched David perform his rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.”
Residents of their hometown in Terre Haute, Indiana, raised $45,000 so that Adam could be flown in with the proper medical care.
David Cook - Come Back To Me Lyrics
David Cook - Come Back To Me Lyrics
you say you gotta go and find yourself
you say that you’re becoming someone else
don’t recognize the face in the mirror
looking back at you
you say you’re leavin
as you look away
i know theres really nothin left to say
just know i’m here
whenever you need me
i’ll wait for you
so i’ll let you go
i’ll set you free
and when you see what you need to see
when you find you come back to me
take your time i wont go anywhere
picture you with the wind in your hair
i’ll keep your things right where you left them
i’ll be here for you
oh and i’ll let you go
i’ll set you free
and when you see what you need to see
when you find you come back to me
and i hope you find everything that you need
i’ll be right here waiting to see
you find you come back to me
i can’t get close if your not there
i can’t get inside if theres no soul to bear
i can’t fix you i can’t save you
its something you have to do
so i’ll let you go
i’ll set you free
and when you see what you need to see
when you find you come back to me
come back to me
so i’ll let you go
i’ll set you free
and when you see what you need to see
when you find you come back to me
and i hope you find everything that you need
i’ll be right here waiting to see
you find you come back to me
when you find you come back to me
when you find you come back to me
when you find you come back to me

David Cook Idled by ‘Family Matters’
Something is not quite right for David Cook.
The reigning American Idol winner took a short break from his national university tour, canceling two shows earlier this week. The performances were set to take place Monday at Colby Sawyer College in New London, N.H., and Tuesday at Connecticut University in New Haven, Conn.
“We are canceling [Monday's] and Tuesday’s shows to allow David time to deal with personal family matters,” read a notice posted on his website. “Please respect his privacy at this time. David would like everyone to rest assured that we are working with the universities to reschedule the shows that are missed.”
The 26-year-old singer’s older sibling, Adam, has been battling brain cancer for more than 10 years. Cook’s rep confirms to People that the brothers spent time together last week.
Several weeks ago, the crooner taped a performance of his new single, “Come Back to Me,” to air on tonight’s results show of American Idol. The guitar he used was adorned with his brother’s initials.

David Cook Asks Fans to Back Off
Living the rock star life has its perks, but former American Idol winner David Cook is having trouble giving up his privacy while on the road.
Cook took to his My Space Celebrity blog to address fan behavior that he says has gone beyond the usual rules of celebrity access.
“The efforts by some fans to find our hotel rooms, call our hotel rooms, attach things to our bus, etc., is something I have to condemn,” Cook wrote. “This relationship only works when it remains healthy for both parties, and should this behavior continue, the only thing we can do is take more preventative measures to maintain our privacy, which in turn makes us less accessible to you.”
Cook said he and his band love spending time with fans, but that they “do enjoy what little privacy we can muster.” But, Cook doesn’t want to leave a bad taste in the mouth of the fans who voted him to stardom on Idol.
“I hope this doesn’t come off as harsh,” he writes. “I merely want to nip this in the bud so we can continue to have a great experience with all of you at the shows we have coming up.”
Do you think Cook is overreacting or should fans give him some space?
